For curly clients this can be a great time to brush up on the latest techniques to embrace curls while also rocking a fashion-forward style. The Braided Bun

With inspiration from the braided buns we’ve seen on the runways, this look is ideal for anyone embracing their natural texture and looking for a chic protective style. Achieve the look by starting with rows of tight, close-to-the-head braids. For a textured knot, braid strands to the end and secure. For a smoother bun, braid along the head down to the nape of the neck, then leave the ends free. Once the braids are finished, pull strands into a low ponytail at the nape and secure with an elastic. Wrap around the base and pin into a knot or bun-like shape. 

The Romantic Updo

If your client is looking for a perfectly imperfect look, opt for a romantic updo. On damp or dry hair, apply a workable paste or cream to help reduce frizz and activate their natural texture. Next, create a few micro braids along the side of the head for added interest or simply pull hair back into a ponytail between the crown and the nape and secure with an elastic. Take small sections of hair and twist, then pin into place with bobby pins. Remember: the look doesn’t have to be perfect; in fact, the more imperfect, the better. To finish, spritz with a light-hold hairspray but don’t worry about fly-aways—you could even pull out a few loose strands to add to the romantic feel of the look.

Celebrities have brought back this look in recent seasons making it the perfect style when client want an edgy look with minimal effort. Detangle and define curls in the shower with a wide-toothed comb and then use a microfiber towel to lightly dry hair using a squeezing/scrunching motion. When hair is about 80% dry, apply a styling gel, look for a formula  that adds hold and definition without becoming flakey or crunchy when it dries. Then allow the hair to dry naturally and you’re ready to go! 

The Super-High Pony

For a fast and fun curly hair look, create a super high pony that showcases your curls. Simply apply a curl-defining cream throughout your strands then pull hair into a high ponytail. Secure with an elastic or scrunchie for a more casual, laid-back look. To ensure your pony stays lifted, place a couple of bobby pins vertically underneath the ponytail.
