The butterfly cut is being touted as a combination of the 90s “Rachel" and a 70s shag. Bringing the two together, this cut is created on long hair and adds layers full of body for a voluminous finish. To get the look, your stylist will add feathered layers throughout with shorter pieces around the crown to create volume and lift. The soft face frame resembles the shape of a butterfly’s wings — which is how the haircut got its name.

While layers may need to be tailored for your hair and face shape, the overall silhouette is versatile enough to be worn by almost anyone. While the look does encourage volume, because the layers are feathered, you can easily switch up your styling to encourage alternate finishes.
